Welcome

Welcome to the website of the Cantabile Singers of Pembrokeshire. I founded the choir in September 2006 and it provides a choral opportunity for upper voices from the age of 16 to 60.

Currently the choir has 34 members drawn from all areas of Pembrokeshire; as far north as Newport, Fishguard and surrounding areas; Narberth, Pembroke areas in the south and from Carmarthen in the east. Cantabile is a county choir and we are not affiliated to any particular township. We welcome potential members from any area of the three counties – Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Membership is open to any female between the age of 16 and 60 who enjoy singing all types of music to a high standard. The ability to read music is desirable but not essential as all members are trained in the same way.

I want members of Cantabile to enjoy what they do and music-making must be fun. Music is the language that is a great leveller and unites everyone despite the boundaries of life, and Cantabile is such an organisation where everyone is an important part of a team. I value each and every member of my team and their contribution to it.

Many members of Cantabile have not performed in this way for quite some time and for some it is a totally new experience. However some members are very experienced choral singers having performed in BBC choirs, and we also have members currently in the BBC Welsh Chorus. All this varying experience makes cantabile what it is – a wonderful choral and musical experience.

Our repertoire is contemporary in the main but the choir does perform some classical and sacred music to suit various performances. However, the young sound of Cantabile lends itself particularly to contemporary repertoire. April 2008 sees the launch of our first album. ANOTHER DAY was recorded by oakwood studios of Llandeilo (link appearing soon). The launch of this album is on the 30th April - more details will be appearing on a dedicated page soon.

The PRESIDENT of Cantabile is CONNIE FISHER who as you know rose to fame as Maria Rainer/Von Trapp in the stage musical 'The Sound of Music' at the London palladium. Connie was educated in Havefordwest and gained much of her early experience in local choirs and amateur productions in the locality. We are extremely proud that Connie is our president and wish her every success for the future. Her profile and link will be added to this website soon.

THIS WEBSITE IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE WHILST WE DO THIS.
