About the choir
A message from the Musical Director
I founded the choir in September 2006 and it provides a choral opportunity for upper voices from the age of 16.
Currently the choir has 34 members drawn from all areas of Pembrokeshire; as far north as Newport, Fishguard and surrounding areas; Amroth, Pembroke and areas in the south; and from Carmarthen in the east. Cantabile is a county choir and we are not affiliated to any particular township. We welcome potential members from any area of the three counties – Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. Membership is open to any female who enjoys singing all types of music to a high standard. The ability to read music is desirable but not essential as all members are trained in the same way. We also welcome members if they already belong to another choir.
I want members of Cantabile to enjoy what they do and music-making must be fun, although I expect everyone to work hard and to perform to a high standard. Music is the language that is a great leveller and unites everyone despite the obstacles of life, and Cantabile is an organisation where everyone is an important part of the team. I value each and every member of my team and their contribution to it.
Cantabile has a good mixture of people - some singers have had more experience than others but everyone is valued as the same member of the team, so whatever your experience to date you will be sure that Cantabile will welcome you! Our repertoire is contemporary in the main but the choir does perform some classical and sacred music to suit various performances. However, the young sound of Cantabile lends itself particularly to contemporary songs.
I would like to make an appeal to potential singers reading this - we are currently launching a recruitment drive and would welcome applications from First and second sopranos and contraltos - we are a fun choir who sing some great music - come and give us a go!
Cantabile is also available to sing for your fundraising cause. We undertake concerts, weddings and other social functions. To find out more look under 'contact us' and we look forward to hearing from you.
