The BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION. Bethesda Church, Narberth. Saturday 12th June 2010
The choir were delighted once again to be invited to sing at a fundraising concert for the British Heart Foundation. This year the concert was staged at the very lovely Bethesda Baptist Church in Narberth. Cantabile were welcomed by the minister, Revd Chris Rees.
The choir were under the direction of their musical director Richard Stephens and ably accompanied by Anna-Louise Tiller at the piano. The programme of music began with a very moving rendition of 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen. During the evening the choir enthralled the audience with some very moving performances, music which included Streets of London by Ralph McTell, Inscription of Hope by Randall Stroope and the very lovely The Lord bless you and keep you by John Rutter.
The soloist for the evening was choir member Hilary Riley (Soprano). She began her programme with the powerful aria O Praise the Lord by Maurice Greene, and then went on to conclude her first section with The Watermill by Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Her second solo spot of the evening turned to the world of musical theatre and the genius of Andrew Lloyd-Webber. She sang Wishing you were somehow here again from the Phantom of the Opera, and then concluded with Love never dies from the musical of the same name by Andrew (the sequel to Phantom of the Opera). Hilary was accompanied at the piano by Richard Stephens.
The vote of thanks was propose by the Chairman of the Narberth Branch of the BHF, Mr Ralph Dunbar. The choir and patrons were treated to a wonderful post-concert tea provided by the members of the BHF and committee. Mrs Janet Webb proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of the choir for the wonderful feast they had enjoyed.
